Johannesburg, 13 July 2009
In a move that seeks to provide a platform for its sponsored teams to prepare for the new soccer season, Old Mutual (South Africa) will once again host the Old Mutual Mangaung Cup – a football festival in the Free State, which will take place at the revamped Botshabelo Stadium on Sunday, July 26, 2009.

The savings and investment company is the official financial solutions partner to Ajax Cape Town, Bloemfontein Celtic and Moroka Swallows. These three sponsored teams will be joined by PSL rookies Mpumalanga Black Aces, to compete in the Old Mutual Mangaung Cup.

The tournament aims to provide Old Mutual’s sponsored teams with a competitive edge by giving them the opportunity to take part in a professional tournament a week before the official Premier Soccer League (PLS) 2009/10 season gets underway.

According to Joy Khaole, brand expression manager for Old Mutual: "We are extremely excited to be a part of this pre-season warm up challenge. This sponsorship fulfills our intent to support local football and compliments our business and socio-economic development initiatives in this region."

"The aim of this tournament is to provide our sponsored teams with a platform to test the full strength of their new squads before the season starts," says Frank Brooks, Old Mutual’s sponsorship manager.

Old Mutual has decided to host the event in Botshabelo this year to coincide with the Dreamfields Schools Challenge kicking off in this region on 25 July 2009. Old Mutual is a founding partner of the Dreamfields Project, which aims to provide resources for playing soccer in the township and rural schools.

The Dreamfields Schools Challenge will be contested by 16 primary schools in the Botshabelo region. Eight girls and eight boys’ teams will play a knockout event on Saturday 25th and then experience the thrill of playing their finals as part of the Mangaung Cup, after the second semi final of the main event.

Each of the Botshabelo schools will receive a DreamBag – full sets of kit plus boots and balls. "The inclusion of Dreamfields in the Mangaung Cup shows Old Mutual’s commitment to soccer at every level of the game," says Dreamfields CEO John Perlman.

"The company is contributing much-needed resources into the school system, developing future stars at the Old Mutual Academy and working with top professional teams. I doubt any sponsor is making as comprehensive a contribution to our national game."

The Old Mutual Mangaung Cup festival will officially launch the newly revamped 22 000 seater 2010 training venue. Tickets are available at Computicket.
