CELL C LAUNCHES 3rd "SIDLALA SONKE" DECEMBER COMMUNITY FOOTBALL TOURNAMENTS

It is that time of the year when the colours of the country’s giant mobile phone company, Cell C brings families together as the Cell C Sidlala Sonke Community Tournaments take the country’s three major provinces by storm.

These events will be hosted in 3 provinces - Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Free State, and will accommodate teams in the under 10, 12, 15, 17, open ladies, masters and open men categories. In all a total of 800 matches will be played by 340 community teams. The highly anticipated events which are been played on 16 fields, will be played from 12 – 30 December 2009 in the heart of the communities. These competitions will involve 40 clubs in the open men category and 16 teams in the other divisions, will be played in a round-robin system at the group stages. Cell C have increased the total prize money to R450 000 or R150 000 per tournament.

The event kicks-off on December 12 to 23 in Mangaung at the Masakeng and Freedom Square grounds (Free State), 16 to 28 December in Richards Bay at the Esikhaleni College, H ground and Khayalethu grounds (KwaZulu-Natal) and 16 to 30 at the Kwa Thema Sports Complex (Gauteng). Another addition to the event is a satellite tournament involving 24 teams which will be played in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, with the top two teams automatically getting entry in the last 16 of the Esikhaleni event.

He added that: "Just as Cell C connects and uplift people in the communities through our CST network, so we can connect and uplift the people from different communities with one another through their soccer fields."

Papadi Integrated Marketing, Cell C’s community activation specialists have lined up a great soccer carnival which encompasses children villages, hawker food courts, arts & craft centers and loads of traditional entertainment including indigenous games and various local dance and song acts. These townships will also celebrate Christmas in a true Cell C way as thousands of gifts will be handed out to children.

Cell C’s sponsorship manager, Richard Naledi said his company values the partnership that they have created with the local community. "We are looking forward to yet another exciting and successful event this festive season. The soccer fields in the identified communities are the hub of almost all of their recreational activities and we intend celebrating football in the Kasi way. "

Large crowds are expected at all venues, including special VIP invites to various orphanages and under privileged organisations.

The Prize-Money Breakdown:

  • Open Men : R50 000, trophy, Gold Medals and a Cell C branded Soccer Kit
  • Runners-Up : R30 000, trophy, Silver Medals and a branded Cell C Soccer Kit
  • 3rd and 4th : R 7 500 and a trophy each
  • Positions 5-8 :R 1 500 each.

Masters:

  • Winners : R 8 000, trophy, Gold Medals and a branded Cell C Soccer Kit
  • Runners-Up : R 5 000, trophy, Silver Medals and a branded Cell C Soccer Kit

Ladies:

  • Winners : R8 000, trophy, Gold Medals and a branded Cell C kit
  • Runners-Up : R5 000, trophy, Silver Medals and a branded Cell C Kit

Under-17

  • Winners : R5 000, trophy, Gold Medals and a branded Cell C kit
  • Runners-Up : R3 000, trophy, Silver Medals and a branded Cell C Kit
  • Under-15:

    • Winners : Educational Hampers @ R250 each, trophy, branded Cell C Kit.
  • Runners-Up : Educational Hampers @ R150 each, trophy, branded Cell C Kit.
  • Individual Awards:

    • Player of the Tournament : R 5 000, trophy and Cell Phone
