Cell C Champ of Champs Finals

The regional final of the Cell C Champ of Champs Tournament took place on 27 April at the AA Section Sports Grounds in Umlazi Kwazulu Natal and on 29 April at the Kwa Mahlobo Soccer Grounds, Meadowlands Zone 10 in Soweto Gauteng.

The winners in each region walked away with R50 000 in prize money. This amazing tournament saw 148 hteams doing battle on the soccer pitch since the Easter Weekend and it was a find that went down to the wire with Orange Farm taking top Honours and a grand prize of R30,000 including a trophy and gold medals.

Richard Naledi of Cell C said: "The Cell C Champ of Champs Tournament is a developmental soccer programme geared towards assisting in the further elevation of township soccer..." "We have been amazed by the talent we have seen during this tournament and hope this serves to further develop township soccer," continued Naledi.

Cell C‘s sponsorship helps unite the community. It brings players and spectators together to celebrate soccer talent in the townships. The sponsorship also provides continued development and ensures it nurtures more talent to compete at a higher level.

"Cell C’s Champ of Champs is delighted to be associated with a sport that South Africans are so passionate about and we encourage the local residents to come and enjoy the day," said Naledi.

"It is encouraging to see big corporates involved in townsip soccer development," said Patrick Ntenjwa of the local organising committee. "We are very excited that Cell C has chosen to support soccer at grassroots level."

The teams that participated in the Cell C Champ of Champs Tournament in Umlazi were:
1. The New Born Spurs from Pietermaritzburg;
2. Benfica FC from Umlazi;
3. The Young Dribblers"from Newcastle; and
4. The Eagles FC"from Claremont, Durban.

The teams that participated in the Cell C Champ of Champs Tournament in Soweto were:
1. Inter Milan"from Meadowlands;
2. Orange Farm Mavarara from Orange Farm;
3. Lefaragatlhe Blizard from Phokeng, Rustenburg; and
4. Inter S.A. from Garankuwa, Pretoria.

Papadi Integrated Marketing arranged a festive occasion for each venue. Soccer aside, spectators were highly entertained. There were aerobatic displays, skydivers, jumping castles, cultural bands, music and loads more.
